Club and Community NewsOn Friday 11th February 2011, the Brisbane Women's Club celebrated its 103rd Birthday with Club Patron Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley AO The Governor of Queensland. Read about the Governor's visit to the Club in this article featured in the Courier Mail on Monday 14th February, 2011: Vice-Regal Notice, Monday 14th February, 2011. Supporting a multitude of significant charities, the club is dedicated to leaving a positive imprint on the community. Here are just a few of the worthy causes that the Brisbane Women’s Club has made significant contributions to over 2010; The Salvation Army’s Pindari Women’s Homeless ShelterThe Salvation Army’s Pindari Women’s Shelter provides safe and secure crisis accommodation for homeless women in Brisbane. Many women who use the service are homeless due to domestic violence, physical or emotional abuse, or financial difficulties. The BWC has worked to provide necessities such as bedding and clothing. Cancer Council QueenslandThe Cancer Council is Queensland’s leading independent organization in Cancer control. Recently the BWC worked collaboratively with the Cancer Council QLD to host the Girls Night In Launch Party. Dress for Success
Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Through a range of clothing drives, the BWC has provided a variety of accessories and clothing to aid the independence of disadvantaged women. Pets in Crisis – Domestic Violence ProgramPets in Crisis provides a safe house for the pets of individuals at serious risk of domestic violence. The program was born of the knowledge that many women delay or do not seek refuge for themselves in a violent situation due to a lack of options for the care of their pets. Pets in Crisis addresses this situation by providing immediate and temporary accommodation via RSPCA Queensland’s Foster Care Program. The pet’s family can then seek refuge with the help of dvconnect, secure in the knowledge that their beloved pet has not been left behind to face injury or cruelty. 139 ClubThe 139 Club provides a safe environment in inner city Brisbane for people experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, to access a range of support services aimed at enhancing social inclusion. The BWC has made significant donations of furniture to the 139 club. |
